In the absence of factory-entered Porsche 956s in the1984 24 Hours of Le Mans due to a change in the regulations that restricted the amount of fuel used during the race, the Joest Racing privateer team managed to reduce the appetite of their Newman-sponsored 956, which won the race driven by Henry Pescarolo and Klaus Ludwig.
