For the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans, regulations required higher windscreens. The resulting increase drag meant fuel consumption was increased too, causing the top contenders to run out of fuel before their first scheduled pit stops. Olivier Gendebien, co-driving Ferrari 250 TR59-60 number 11 with Belgium fellow compatriot Paul Frère, was lucky to run out just as he approached the pits, and coasted into his pit-box. The duo took the lead from then and never relinquished it.
Original is a 16" x 20" oil on canvas, available from the Reflections Elégante Fine Art Gallery, 271 Alvarado Mall, Monterey, California.
